We're pleased to announce the final wave of sessions and speakers for our global sync licensing conference AIM Sync, as well as the full details of panels, listening sessions and one-on-one networking taking place virtually on 11th February.
SPEAKERS
AIM Sync is the UK's one truly global sync conference and marketplace. The newly announced speakers comprise an international group of experts from the worlds of music supervision, film, TV, gaming, advertising and composition. They join the conference from companies including: AIM, Warp Records & Publishing, TikTok, Cooking Vinyl, PPL, IMPEL, Manners McDade, Earworm Music, Leland Music, Black & White Music, Tin Drum Music, Synchtank, SuperMusicVision, Zync Music and Binary Words, plus artists and industry figures such as Paulette Long OBE, Timothy Waldron (Courier Club) and reggae legend Dennis Bovell.
CASE STUDIES
Newly announced sessions include a case study on Small Axe, the BBC's anthology film series of love letters to Black resilience and triumph in London's West Indian community directed by Academy Award winner, Steve McQueen. Alongside the film's music supervisors, attendees will hear from British reggae legend Dennis Bovell, writer of the song 'Silly Games' and one of the fathers of the 'Lovers Rock' genre which provides a moment of brilliance in one of the series' films.
Another new addition to the line-up features the music team behind one of the UK's most outstanding breakthrough television series of 2020, 'I May Destroy You'. Sophie Urquhart, Ciara Elwis and Christian Sandino-Taylor will discuss the music supervision process behind the programme, which featured a huge range of independent artists including AIM Independent Music Award winners Little Simz, Arlo Parks and FKA Twigs.
PANELS, LISTENING SESSIONS + AWARDS
Acknowledging the rise of short-form video platform TikTok and its increasing importance for music rightsholders, the conference will feature a conversation between Kelli Slade from TikTok's music licensing team and Verity Griffiths, Head of Sync at independent label and AIM Member, Cooking Vinyl. They will explore sync-crossover case studies within TikTok, how labels and artists can engage with sync opportunities on the platform, and TikTok's approach to music in 2021.
Panel discussions will take place throughout the day, covering a range of topics including: 'Soundtracking a Drama Series', 'Engaging with the US Sync Market', 'New Opportunities for Music in Gaming', and 'Ethical Music Classifications'. Essential masterclasses from sync experts will be presented on negotiation, clearances and mechanicals.
Ever-popular listening sessions will give attendees the chance to be a fly on the wall and hear how and why supervisors would place certain tracks, as well as what would prevent them from doing so. Supervisors pre-select these tracks to demonstrate their decision-making process. Attendees can then use this knowledge when pitching their own repertoire for future opportunities.
Following their successful introduction last year, two informal sync awards will be presented at the end of the event to shine a spotlight on the use of independent music and artists in the sync and brand landscape, 'Independent Sync of the Year' and 'Music Supervisor of the Year'.
