There's now just one week to go until the UK's flagship independent music conference, AIM Connected on Thursday 11 March, bringing together the themes of Business, Tech and People!  

In the build-up to the event, we've put together an event preview picking out some of the highlights from the event's Strong Opinions, panels, workshops, one-on-one networking sessions. This is a massive event for the independent community to come together, share knowledge and, ultimately, grow your businesses. Tickets are free for Members and just £50 for non-members. Sign up and check out the full schedule here

 

EVENT PREVIEW

MORNING 

Kicking the day off, AIM's CEO Paul Pacifico will introduce the conference, and we'll then delve straight into quick-fire, TED-style Strong Opinion addresses from industry leaders, starting with AIM Board Member and Co-Chief Exec of Jazz re:freshed, Yvette Griffith. She'll be discussing her experiences fundraising for an AIM Award-winning, Black-led non-profit arts organisation, followed by UK Music's CEO, Jamie Njoku-Goodwin laying out the post Covid and Brexit future for the industry. 

Afterwards, hear how to get your business investment ready from independent music founders who've successfully scaled up, as well as investment expert Jenny Tooth OBE, CEO of the UK Business Angels Association. Then, you can dive back into our Strong Opinions, with Robin Millar CBE, Chair of Chrysalis Group and Blue Raincoat Music, addressing accessibility in the workplace, and Achal Dhillon, MD, Killing Moon Music Group, describing his experience successfully launching a label group during the pandemic. 

In two Strong Opinions, Marsha Ramroop (Unheard Voice) will explore how music leadership can use cultural intelligence to help towards fixing the problem of unconscious bias, and Chantal Epp will describe her journey as a female entrepreneur, founding and scaling-up the award-winning music licensing / tech company ClicknClear

Next, join digital marketing guru Sammy Andrews and livestreaming experts Driift, Bandcamp, Believe Music and Guesthouse, as they break down opportunities, clearances, monetisation options, and what's next for livestreaming post-pandemic. Kevin Brennan MP will then cover the intersection of politics and music in the times of Covid and Brexit in a Strong Opinion, while a panel of leading independent distributors including Cargo, Ditto Music, FUGA and PIAS will cover the future of distribution in 2021.

AFTERNOON 

In the afternoon, AIM CEO Paul Pacifico will delve into conversation with Alice Hu Wagner, MD Strategy, Economics and Business Development for the British Business Bank, to discuss the key findings and outcomes from the bank's report 'Alone together: Entrepreneurship and diversity in the UK', which revealed important statistics on the effects that ethnic and economic background, gender and geographic location have on entrepreneurial opportunities and outcomes.  

'Witness the Fitness' will examine the opportunities for independent music within the fitness and wellness worlds, through insights from two brands who have become household names while utilising music in creative ways - Peloton and Calm, while Molly Neuman, President of Songtrust, will deliver a Strong Opinion on her journey from DIY creator to entrepreneur.  

Later on, Jennifer Cochrane (Getahead) and Claire Horseman (Anjuna Beats) will discuss the how independents are looking at workplaces in the future following the effects of Covid, plus looking after your employees' mental wellbeing during the pandemic. Lesley Bleakley (Beggars Group), Mariya Kaperska (Phoenix Music International) and John Reed (Cherry Red Records) will reveal the secrets of getting the most out of your label's catalogue, and data experts from rightsHUB, CD Baby, DDEX and PPL / RDx will come together for 'Metadata...updated!'

Finally, the conference will round off with a keynote discussion from AIM Award Best Independent Album 2020 winner, ground-breaking UK Jazz Artist Sarathy Korwar. He'll be joined by his manager, Henry Walton, and Tony Morley, MD of The Leaf Label, to discuss what it takes to become a successful independent artist in 2021
