Nominations open for Music Week's Women in Music Awards 2021, plus new Entrepreneur Award

The Music Week Women In Music Awards 2021 has opened nominations and announced plans to return as a live event this year, at the Park Lane Hilton in London on October 22, 2021. AIM is proud to be a founding partner and part of the steering committee for the awards, which this year include a new 'Entrepreneur' category.

The awards, which have made clear in this year's announcement that they are trans and genderqueer inclusive, recognise and celebrate the careers and success of women and female-identifying people in the music business. They showcase the full range of roles that women and female-identifying people occupy within the business: highlighting how vital they are to the industry, though still often underrepresented in some mainstream industry awards.

There are 12 award categories, including the all-new Entrepreneur Award mentioned in the announcement by AIM's COO Gee Davy at our conference, Future Independents, last week. This new award recognises a woman who has been the driving force in founding or building a business, displaying considerable innovation and success. We expect to see many strong nominations for this new award from the independent music space, which has entrepreneurship at its heart.

The other categories are: Rising Star, Music Champion, Music Creative, Campaigner, Live Music Inspiration, The Company Award for Diversity in the Workplace, Businesswoman Of The Year, International Woman Of The Year, Inspirational Artist*, New Artist Award*, and Outstanding Contribution* (* = no nominations taken).

This year's event will also see the continuation of the Roll of Honour, established in 2014 and now with more than 80 recipients, including many from the independent music community. It aims to highlight the breadth, depth and variety of individuals who are 'game changers' in the music industry, with a common theme: their activities consistently benefit women or focus on female empowerment/gender parity.

Every year 12 more 'inductees' from the music industry are recognised in the Roll of Honour for their work, except last year when a special 24-place Roll of Honour was celebrated in place of the usual awards ceremony. Nominees for any of the above category awards are automatically also considered for the Roll of Honour but it is also possible to directly nominate exceptional individuals who don't meet the criteria for the other categories.

To nominate someone – and to see the criteria for each category – head here. The entry deadline is 6pm, July 1, 2021. We know there are many inspiring women and female-identifying people and we encourage everyone to nominate them to give them the recognition they deserve. It's been great to see many independent execs and rising stars being honoured in recent years and we'd love to celebrate more!

Tables and tickets to Women In Music Awards will be available from June 17. The event will follow all certified processes and checks to ensure that it can safely open.
